They co-exist with humans because they look and even act like them. son Goku is the hero while vegetta used to be the prince of the saiyans before their planet was destroyed.
At first Vegeta really hated son Goku as he felt that he was superior to him and therefore needed to be respected. They settle down almost instantly and start families with humans. They even end up starting families with humans and get children who are half-saiyans. Because of being half-human and half-sayans, the children are very strong, as they possess enormous powers.
Son Gotan and Son Gohan are the children of Son Goku. Vegeta on the other hand has a son, Trunks, and a daughter, bra. These children being descendants of Saiyans can transform into super Saiyans. The dragon balls which also happen to be the title of the comic contain some sort of power. They are seven in total and each one has a number of stars ranging from 1 to 7.
